Day 2- Hawkinsville, Ga

Hey Y'all! Brittany here (Jimmy's wife). Jon and Lisa have done so well documenting the journey thus far! I thought today would be a good chance to hop on here and represent for the Moncriefs.

2 days down, 27 days to go

The guys did great yesterday, but today was even better. They took a little bit different approach. Instead of hammering down for 4 hours straight at a time they did 20ish mile increments, but I will start from the beginning. Got an earlier start. Out of campsite by 8pm. After an 8 hour night sleep Jon and Jimmy were ready to go. Some noteworthy thoughts:

Vidalia, Georgia does in fact smell like onions...through and through

Met their first fellow cyclist. It was raining pretty good so Jimmy did not have his glasses on. He first thought it was a golf cart, then a stage coach and as he drew closer it was in fact neither of the two, but instead a beach cruiser with a lawn mowing trailer attached, accompanied by the man's dog, a 1984 boom box and a sign saying "Headed to Ohio".

Did a little more mileage than expected with some completely sandy back roads leaving the guys sinking and a quick fall by Jimmy (funny not catastrophic). 99.5 miles instead of 92, but still right on track.

You will be happy to know that Hawkinsville, GA is the Horse Buggy Capital of the World. . .a place you only visit if you have an infatuation with Horse Buggies or in this case are biking across America.

today's ride was for Aaron Cabeen of Cabeen Originals.....

Food Journal:

Pre-Breakfast: Jon-Banana Jimmy-Hammer gel

20 miles

Breakfast: Sonic Breakfast burrito

25 miles

lunch: king size snickers and powerade

20 miles

Dinner 1: pb and j

34.5 remaining mileage

Dinner 2: Jon has a thing with drinking milk after he works out so the guys drank the only milk the grocery store carried slice-it-with-a-knife whole milk along with a fruit & vegetable tray

Reverse Sponsorship: (There is a flip video that will be back in my possession tomorrow that goes more into detail about this, but for now a quick brief) With the love of quality locally made products and some very fabulous friends the guys want to give back to their community and thank their friends for their awesomeness.

So today's ride was for Aaron with Cabeen Originals. This hardworking guy makes beautiful custom wood furnishings for in and around your house. These high end, high quality pieces are a must have for anyone that appreciates products that are built local, for longevity and originality. I know for a fact that these pieces far out last the cheap plywood based furnishings the Moncriefs purchased at the start of their marriage. Not only does Aaron know his craft, but is a great guy who lives in Chattanooga, TN with his beautiful wife and adorable twin daughters.

PS: fingers crossed that we may have a couple of pictures and some video for tomorrow's post

Wow 99.5 miles!  That's crazy.  I can't imagine!!  Let's just say I'm living the dream through Jon and Jimmy!!  Blessings on continued success!  Michele

2. 99.5 miles!?

If you rode just a half mile more, you could have logged an honest century!  I know guys who would challenge your decision to camp at 99.5 miles.  Dave DR

3. funny!

cracking up at the image of a bike cruiser pulling a trailer and Jimmy not being about to see it without his glasses. Glad you guys are making it - praying for safety and great weather!

4. thanks!

Thanks for posting an update, Brittany! Jon said he has some great photos, and I'm sure Jimmy does as well - I'm looking forward to seeing them up here soon! Thanks Dave for all of your posts, too...I know the guys really appreciate the encouragement :)

5. Excellent

Excellent!  But I think I know where Jimmy might have dropped his iPhone with the GPS app.  Why do those things not work for tracking riders like we think they will?!
