California Here I Come

Today we crossed the Colorado River and entered into California.  This is the last state in a long journey.  By my records we have bicycled close to 2,466 miles.  We have stayed on track to bike across the United States in 29 days.  In two days, Lord willing, our bike tires will touch the Pacific Ocean.

The journey has been long and difficult.  Today was particularly challenging as my body yearned for water that was cooler than a blistering 104 degrees.  The heat was so dry I often felt that someone stuffed cotton balls in my mouth.  No amount of water seemed capable of taking away the dryness.

Jimmy and I both agree that the most difficult part of the trip was the mental challenge of getting up and riding an average of 90 miles each day.  The battle and greatest risk of quitting often lay in our mind's attitude.

With one full day of cycling left (our last day is only 50-60 miles) I am worn out.  Although we only have two days left, the end still seems far away.

We are camping in the mountains outside of San Diego tomorrow, and the next blog post will likely be when we are finished.

1. Horray for you, Jon!

We were gone for two weeks to grandchildren's graduations and now that we are home, we are tracking you again.  We cannot believe you are within your goal!  It seemed like you should have some time to go yet when we got home and then, seeing you are where you are, we are amazed at your stamina!  Prayers have certainly been answered on your - and Jimmy's - behalf.  God's blessings on you and Lisa as you continue with your future plans.   Your friends in Christ,   Ralph & Emilie Wiersma (Denver)

2. Amazing!

You guys are amazing!  I will pray for you to get up with the energy to finish well as I fully expect you will.  Dave DR
