About the Bike Route

Souther US Bike Route

We decided to create our own southern route because it was the shortest way from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific.  While I hope to be able to ride the northern route someday, we simply did not have the time to ride the 1000+ additional miles in a northern route.

We got a lot of really helpful information from http://bikeacrossamerica.org/.  You'll see that our route is fairly similar, except we made some changes through GA, AL and MS.  After Tempe, AZ the route follows the Southern Tier Route established by the Adventure Cycling Association.

Route Stats:

  • Total Mileage: 2618 miles
  • Expected Riding Days: 29 (plus 1-2 rest days)
  • Average Mileage Per Day: 90 miles
  • Median Mileage: 92 miles
  • Max Mileage In a Day: 110 miles
  • Min Mileage: 54 miles (our last day)

You can view the route details by clicking on the appropriate links on the right sidebar.
