The Night Before

I'm writing this as we drive down to Savannah. After a slow start (I missed my flight to Atlanta causing a 4 hour delay) we are very close to starting the ride. At this time tomorrow, Lord willing, we will be in Hawkinsville,GA and have ridden 88 miles.

The past two weeks have been very crazy. These weeks have involved packing everything for the bike trip, packing all our other belongings into a moving truck, driving the moving truck to Philadelphia, unloading all of our stuff and placing it in storage and now we are starting the bike ride.

I am looking forward to a few relaxing weeks. Will this bike ride provide the relaxation I need? Stay tuned to find out!

Day 1 - Reidsville, GA (Quick Update)

Hi Everyone! It's Lisa here. I just spoke with Jonathan and after 88 miles of cycling today, he and Jimmy arrived safely to their campsite in Reidsville, Georgia. Jon says they are by a pond and it's really pretty and not too hot. The guys will post an entry with more details later, but I figured since they are tired I'd give you all that brief bit of info! Thanks for all your continued prayers for the guys...stay tuned for more updates and photos!

Day 2- Hawkinsville, Ga

Hey Y'all! Brittany here (Jimmy's wife). Jon and Lisa have done so well documenting the journey thus far! I thought today would be a good chance to hop on here and represent for the Moncriefs.

2 days down, 27 days to go

The guys did great yesterday, but today was even better. They took a little bit different approach. Instead of hammering down for 4 hours straight at a time they did 20ish mile increments, but I will start from the beginning. Got an earlier start. Out of campsite by 8pm. After an 8 hour night sleep Jon and Jimmy were ready to go. Some noteworthy thoughts:

Vidalia, Georgia does in fact smell like onions...through and through

Met their first fellow cyclist. It was raining pretty good so Jimmy did not have his glasses on. He first thought it was a golf cart, then a stage coach and as he drew closer it was in fact neither of the two, but instead a beach cruiser with a lawn mowing trailer attached, accompanied by the man's dog, a 1984 boom box and a sign saying "Headed to Ohio".

Did a little more mileage than expected with some completely sandy back roads leaving the guys sinking and a quick fall by Jimmy (funny not catastrophic). 99.5 miles instead of 92, but still right on track.

You will be happy to know that Hawkinsville, GA is the Horse Buggy Capital of the World. . .a place you only visit if you have an infatuation with Horse Buggies or in this case are biking across America.

today's ride was for Aaron Cabeen of Cabeen Originals.....

Days 1, 2, 3, & 4 Photos

Hi Everyone! Jon emailed me these photos from his phone earlier today. The guys are currently in La Fayette, Alabama! Woo! Here are some fun facts about La Fayette:

-Named in honor of Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette (quite a name, huh?), a French aristocrat & military officer who made great contributions to the American Revolution. In fact, many other places in the US bear his name, or a semblance of his name (Lafayette College in PA & Fayetteville, NC to name a couple). See this link for more information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marquis_de_Lafayette

-Birthplace of heavywight boxing champion Joe Louis, or, "The Brown Bomber". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Louis

That's all for now! Thanks everyone for all of the words of encouragment...I know Jon and Jimmy appreciate it!
